[[Jonus]] is employed by [[Sichael]] to build a bastion to protect a few select people from the arrival of [[Offworlders]]s which is incorrectly predicted to occur on [[826-11-30]]. The Bastion ([[Sichael's Bastion]]) has special chambers that house a few rich important noblemen in a [[Cryosleep|suspended state]] until the devastation is set to pass. [[Jonus]] researches the relationship between religion and magic. He discovers that the gods that people worship are nothing more than highly complicated magic spells that usually feed off of the devotion of their followers.
